About Common Pictures
Mission
To spark the moral imagination through restorative storytelling.
Common Pictures’ impact media projects affirm social justice, environmental stewardship and the dignity of our shared humanity. Our stories dismiss polarization, motivate audiences with hope and instigate restorative work. In a zero-sum culture, Common Pictures promotes mutual flourishing.
Common Pictures is the impact media arm of The Edward E. Haddock, Jr. Family Foundation.
We live into our mission in two ways:
Common Pictures Productions
We co-create stories that inspire audiences to face injustice, sustain hope and restore broken relationships.
Impact Media Fellowship
We support storytellers and their projects by providing impact strategies and audience engagement.
Restorative Storytelling Ethos
-

Mutual Respect
To the extent possible, we reflect the dignity of both the protagonist and the antagonist so that we can see one another as fully human. We recognize our shared humanity both in front of the camera and behind the camera.
-

Hope is Greater than Fear
Because we believe that positive change is possible, we lean into a posture of optimism rather than cynicism. Fear is an unsustainable motivator while hope leads to long-term, positive change.
-

Equity in Storytelling
The stories must center the voices of those they represent, and the projects empower under-represented and under-resourced creators.
-

Pathways for Engagement
As storytellers, we believe that we have a responsibility to tell the truth in a way that moves audiences (including ourselves) to meaningful action. The world is changed by ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
